MS Series – sensors and switches with a metal front

Introduction

Elegant LED has expanded its portfolio with four new proximity devices: the MS1 and MS11 sensors, along with the MS24 and MS124 switch modules. Each unit features a robust metal front plate available in two stylish finishes—classic white and dark graphite—making them suitable for both minimalist modern interiors and more traditional settings. In this article, we’ll delve into their technical specifications, key functionalities, and practical applications, focusing on details relevant to professional installers.

Series Overview

The MS1 and MS11 are proximity sensors designed to detect objects within a defined range and to work with F40 and F46 systems. The MS11 adds a built-in twilight detector for light-level-dependent activation. In contrast, the MS24 and MS124 are proximity switches that activate the output signal for a predefined duration when an object is detected. All models use an NO/NPN output stage, ensuring compatibility with most controllers and automation modules.

Common Technical Features

  1. Detection Range:
    • Minimum: 35 cm
    • Maximum: 140 cm
  2. Power Supply and Current Consumption:
    • Operating Voltage: 12 – 24 V DC
    • Current Draw: approx. 40 mA
  3. Output Type:
    • NO (normally open), NPN
  4. Mechanical Design and Mounting:
    • Metal front diameter: 75 mm; body depth: 35 mm
    • Front plate colors: white or dark graphite
    • Flush mounting with spring-clip retention—no tools required

The spring-loaded clips lock each device firmly in place once inserted into the pre-cut mounting hole, ensuring a secure installation without screws or brackets.

Model Descriptions

MS1 – Basic Proximity Sensor

The MS1 detects objects between 35 cm and 140 cm, providing a simple NO/NPN signal output. It integrates seamlessly with F40 and F46 controllers, making it ideal for automatic lighting control, gate activation, or any application requiring contactless presence detection. Its sturdy metal front guarantees reliable operation even in demanding environments.

MS11 – Proximity and Twilight Sensor

Built on the MS1 platform, the MS11 adds ambient-light sensing. It triggers its output only when the detected light level falls below a predefined threshold, enabling it to act as a combined motion-and-darkness detector.

MS24 – Bistable Proximity Switch

Unlike the MS1, the MS24 latches its output state upon each detection event: one proximity gesture switches it on for selected interval. It effectively replaces a mechanical switch, offering a contactless user experience for toggling lights, fans, or other loads without physical pressing.

MS124 – Bistable Proximity & Twilight Switch

The MS124 merges the bistable switching function of the MS24 with the built-in twilight sensor. It toggles its latched output only under low-light conditions.

Installation and Configuration

  1. Prepare the Cut-out: Drill a 75 mm diameter hole with a minimum depth of 35 mm.
  2. Wiring: Connect the 12–24 V DC supply and the NO/NPN output lines according to the wiring diagram.
  3. Insert the Device: Push the unit into the hole until the spring clips snap into place.
  4. Function Test: Approach the sensor with an object at distances between 35 cm and 140 cm to verify correct detection and output behavior.

Flush mounting and spring-clip technology eliminate the need for tools or fastening hardware, significantly reducing installation time and effort.

Applications

  • Indoor Installations: Corridor and staircase lighting, restroom automation, appliance control.
  • Building Automation: Smart Home integration, access control, security zones.
  • Light Industrial: Access detection, conveyor control, presence monitoring in production lines.

Designed primarily for professional installers, the MS series combines fast installation, durability, and versatile operation with straightforward configuration.
